“And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.”
There are seasons when the work is underway, but the wall is still unfinished.
There are gaps.
There is rubble.
There is weariness.
The people of Judah were not standing before an untouched wall. They had already been laboring. Yet the weight of the work, the opposition surrounding them, and the debris remaining before them caused their strength to decay.
Their exhaustion was real, but it was not the end of the assignment.
Nehemiah 4:9 says:
“Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.”
They prayed.
They remained watchful.
They continued building.
The presence of gaps did not mean God had abandoned the work. The unfinished wall was not a failed wall. It was evidence that the work was still in progress.
There may be places in your life where the structure is not yet complete. Some areas may still feel vulnerable. You may see more rubble than progress and feel that your strength is beginning to fail.
Do not mistake an unfinished work for an abandoned one.
Bring your weariness before God. Ask Him for wisdom concerning the gaps. Remain watchful, and continue the work He has entrusted to you.
The wall may still have gaps, but God is not finished building.
Where have I mistaken an unfinished work for a failed one, and what faithful step is God requiring of me now?
Father,
Strengthen the weary builder within me.
Help me not to become discouraged by the rubble, the resistance, or the places that remain unfinished.
Teach me to pray, remain watchful, and continue the work You have placed before me.
Give me wisdom to recognize the gaps and courage to address them without abandoning the assignment.
The wall belongs to You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
